Teaching activities

I carry out my pedagogical and teaching activities within the Biology department at the Faculty of Science and Technology" of the University of Lille. I teach in lectures, practical and supervised work in plant biology and cell biology. I also introduce Master's students to the various bioinformatics tools and to programming in Python and R.

BiVA training courses of the M.Sc. Chem. & Life Sci.

I am the director of studies for BiVA training courses (Bioanalysis and Valorization of Agroresources) of the Master's in Chemistry and Life Sciences (Master CSV) since September 2022.

The objective of the training is to train engineers in the fields of bioanalysis of agroresources with a view to their use in applications related to the bioeconomy. The students are trained in advanced analysis techniques for biomolecules and in particular molecules from plant production. The sectors of activity concerned are those of cosmetics, biorefining, and materials. The techniques taught also relate to the food domains. The notions of biodesign and business innovation are also covered. This training is offered as an apprenticeship, where the student will exercise his future profession in a host company. A flyer describing the training can be downloaded here.

Inovative pedagogy

Attentive in providing all possible help for the success of our students, we have developed digital tools to help learning. Among these tools, a set of tests allowing a self-evaluation have been created. These tests contain photographs to annotate and quizzes to test his knowledge in plant biology. These exercises are available online "cmveg.univ-lille". A version adapted to the Moodle platform have been developped to use this resource as a part of a conventional teaching. The same concept was used to develop a self-assessment tool in cell biology.

The evolution of digital pedagogy tools, such as the development of the moodle platform, has made it possible to transform teaching by introducing a part of independent work into the programs. For example, we have designed a hybrid plant biology teaching programm in which students follow a part of a classic lecture and parallel digital activities. These are mainly quizzes, videos supplementing the subject of the course, or even collaborative editorial activity in the form of a wiki. This project named ElevateD has been active since 2020.

At the same time, I experimented with a reverse pedagogy approach in tutorials. The students prepare upstream of the session on the basis of documents and documentary boards some summary tables. These tables are reinvested in the session by the collective production of works in the form of a poster, on which the students answer a cross-cutting question on the theme of the session. The posters are then presented orally. This formula is a great success among students.
